AI expense splitter for group bills
Use SplitBuds as an AI bill splitter with ChatGPT, Claude, or Codex. Tell your connected assistant who paid, what the bill cost, and who shared it. Ask to see the split before you record it.
What an AI bill split looks like
For a group called Friday Dinner, try a prompt like this. Use your real group name and list everyone who shared the bill.
In Friday Dinner, I paid CAD 96 for dinner. Split it equally between me, Maya, and Jules. Show me the preview before recording it.
The preview should show CAD $32.00 per person. If you paid the full bill, Maya and Jules each owe you CAD $32.00. Once you record it, those shares go into the group ledger. SplitBuds does not send money.
How to split expenses with ChatGPT, Claude, or Codex
- To split a bill with ChatGPT, follow the ChatGPT setup steps. You can also connect Claude or Codex. Review the group and permissions before approving the connection.
- Give the group, amount, currency, payer, and participants. Say whether you want equal shares or exact amounts. For an unequal taxi split, you could say, “I paid CAD 59.20. My share is CAD 25.00 and Maya’s is CAD 34.20.”
- Check that the preview names the right people and that the shares add up. Ask your assistant to record the expense when the preview looks right. You can review it again in the group ledger.
Read-only connections can check balances without adding or editing entries. For example, ask, “What do I owe in our trip group? Show it by currency.” Manage or revoke access in Profile → Connected agents.
Can I split a receipt from a photo?
Use Scan receipt in the SplitBuds app when scanning is available. Review the detected items and assign them to the right people. Receipt photos and attachments are handled in SplitBuds. See the receipt splitting guide for an example with shared dishes, tax, and tip.
Do I need AI for a quick split?
Use the CAD bill split calculator to divide a total equally among two to eight people, with no account or AI connection. For a trip with several currencies, keep the group balances separate by currency.
