Track group expenses in multiple currencies
Enter each expense in the currency you paid. SplitBuds shows what each person owes in each currency, so you can review balances without mixing exchange rates.
Example: split trip expenses in CAD and JPY
Alex pays CAD $120.00 for a shared hotel deposit and Maya pays JPY ¥6,000 for a shared train ride. They split both expenses equally.
| Expense | Paid by | Balance owed |
|---|---|---|
| Hotel deposit | Alex | Maya owes CAD $60.00 |
| Train ride | Maya | Alex owes JPY ¥3,000 |
The two amounts stay separate. For a group trip, create one group for hotels, meals, and transportation. When you add an expense, select its original currency and the people sharing it. Changing your default currency affects new entries and leaves the original amounts intact.
Settle separately or review a conversion
To settle separately, pay your friend using a method you agree on, then record the settlement in the matching currency. SplitBuds records the payment in the ledger.
To convert a group deliberately, open Groups → your group → Manage → Convert currency. Preview the rates and affected records, then confirm only if the quote works for your group. SplitBuds retains the original currency history.
Bringing expenses from another ledger?
